Commercial Driver's License (CDL) & Truck Ticket Defense
A ticket issued to a commercial driver is rarely as simple as an ordinary traffic ticket. It often carries two separate consequences that move on two separate tracks: a court case (fines, points, and possible license action) and a federal regulatory record through the FMCSA's CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) program, which follows you on your PSP (Pre-Employment Screening Program) report that future employers can pull.
These two tracks do not automatically talk to each other. Winning or reducing the citation in court does not by itself clear your federal CSA record. You have to separately petition the FMCSA through its DataQs system, submitting certified court documentation, to get an inaccurate or resolved violation corrected or removed from your record. Skip that step, and a ticket you already beat in court can still be quietly hurting your safety score.
And often the ticket is not even the driver's fault. It may trace back to a shipper's loading error, a carrier maintenance issue, or an inspector's misjudgment on the roadside. I look at both the fault question and the process question, and I handle both tracks together, the court case and the DataQs/CSA challenge, so a win in one place does not get undone by an oversight in the other.
